I left a prompt on

untold_legends about Richard and Colin performing as King Lear and the Fool... and was staggered to discover this morning that it has not only been filled, but filled by one of my favourite artists and dearest friends,

altocello.

I'm sure you'll all love this as much as I do. Such a lovely contemplative piece... Just gorgeous! (And anyway, bare-chested Colin.) But seriously, though. I love love love how Cello always brings out Richard's beauty while never shying away from his well-lived age.

Warnings: This fic contains senior sex, consensual voyeurism, and threesomes.
♦ Also, as those familiar with the play Edward II (or the history on which it’s based) will know, it’s a tragedy and both main characters die. We don’t however, dwell upon any of the scenes in great detail, whether happy or sad.

Summary: Richard and Colin are ‘friends with benefits’; when Colin attempts to renegotiate their arrangement, Richard resists making it into anything more than what it is. And he seems to be justified in his wariness. As Richard directs Colin and Bradley in a production of Edward II, it becomes clear that the two young men are in love. Richard refuses to stand in their way, but now Colin is the one reluctant to change the existing arrangements.

Summary: Merlin is an art student, working as an orderly at a Pendragon Care care home during the summer break; he falls in love with Gaius, one of the (temporary) residents. The feeling is mutual, but such an unexpected relationship is never going to be easy to establish when both men feel so diffident about their claims on each other. And that's before taking into account the mutual antipathy between Merlin and Gaius's beloved godson Arthur, not to mention a surprising addition to Merlin's family, and Merlin's grief over his best friend Freya being institutionalised…
Author's notes: This all grew out of a Gaius/Merlin prompt on

kinkme_merlin: 'When Merlin signs up to be a summer volunteer at the local old age home, he never once expected to meet the great love of his life there.' My first thought was, 'Ooh! I could do that.' Then I dreamt up Pendragon Care, and Gaius's relationship with Uther and Arthur. And then… Well. All this happened!

And here's my latest Colin/Richard fic - indeed, my first ever big bang fic!

I really enjoyed writing Indian Summer and Spring, and I don't think I'd change anything about either fic, but the Colin/Richard encounters in them were one-offs, and the Colin/Bradley relationship was the primary, long-term answer for Colin. So I became more and more entranced by the idea of writing a Colin/Richard fic in which their relationship was the primary one for both characters. Then the Merlin RPF Big Bang Challenge 2010 was launched, and I thought, Why not...? This provided good motivation to write a longish, solid fic, and (if I was very very lucky) even be blessed with some related artwork. So I signed up for that, and I promised them a Bradley/Colin fic, too, (though that is literally another story!) and I was indeed incredibly lucky with the artwork by

glaringcandle; you'll find her Colin/Richard manip below. I think I am totally addicted to participating in big bangs now! :-D

Warnings: One of the minor characters is based on someone I saw in one of the notorious facebook photos. I have no idea at all who he is, but Colin looked so happy and relaxed with him, and I have to love the guy for that. So he became Colin’s ex in my fic. I think I wrote this respectfully. However! If it bothers you that I couldn’t resist going to have a look at the photos on lj, and then couldn’t resist writing about someone who isn’t otherwise in the public eye, then parts of this fic will not be your cup of tea.
Summary: It is February 2008 and the cast of Merlin are meeting for the first time. Colin and Bradley don’t get along at first, but a connection is finally made once Colin comes out to Bradley. Bradley's feelings of friendship for Colin grow and grow until a hitherto straight Bradley finds himself in love with the man. But in the meantime, Colin – who tends to go for older men, and who appreciates a calmer home life than most young people – has set his sights on Richard, even though Richard is significantly older than his previous serious boyfriend. While Richard can’t help but love Colin, he does all he can to resist, knowing that such a relationship would be next to impossible. Meanwhile, Katie is drawn to Bradley and his good heart, but bides her time as she watches Bradley’s feelings for Colin play out.
